Research Facilitation

Our Impact

The Huffines Institute makes impactful contributions to the students and faculty of Texas A&M in education, research, and community service. Huffines supports and administers numerous activities directly aligned with the Institute’s goals.

How the Huffines Institute Helps Researchers

Clinician & Scientist Collaboration

Encourages research activities between scientists and clinicians interested in sports medicine and human performance. The Huffines Institute funds faculty research grants, student research grants, and student travel awards, which are available to over 150 registered Huffines Faculty Affiliates and their students.

Facilities & Resources

Facilitates faculty research through Huffines-affiliated facilities that provide the infrastructure, equipment, and personnel needed to conduct these studies successfully. These facilities and resources also provide students with valuable educational and learning opportunities and critical testing and clinical services for the surrounding community.

Exploring new areas

Cultivates new research project development. Some evolving research areas included sports medicine, tactical performance, and Para-cycling athletes.

Information & Research Dissemination

Disseminates research and information on exercise science, sports science, human performance, and sports medicine through multiple media formats. This important and topical information is accessible and applicable to parents, coaches, athletes, physicians, athletic trainers, physical therapists, and health educators.

Real-World Learning Opportunities

Provides the environment and infrastructure to enrich undergraduate and graduate student education and training. These opportunities included educational and learning opportunities for Texas A&M athletic coaches and the physical testing of Athletes and Coaches.

Faculty Research Grants

Purpose

Dr. JP Bramhall was one of the Institute’s founders and an Institute Advisory Board member from 1999 to 2021. The purpose of the Dr. JP Bramhall Faculty Research Seed Grant program is to provide limited financial support to Huffines’ Affiliate Faculty members for research that contributes to the mission of the Huffines Institute, and that will provide data leading to proposals for extramural funding.

Priority is given to projects utilizing Huffines Institute affiliated facilities (see website), initiating collaborations between Huffines Faculty Affiliates from different TAMU academic units, and involving Huffines Graduate Student members.

If the project is funded, the Huffines Graduate Student Members involved can apply for additional Huffines funding through the Graduate Student Research Grants and travel awards.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be a Huffines Institute Faculty Affiliate (see link). All faculty from Texas A&M institutions & campuses are welcome to apply.

Overview

Dr. JP Bramhall seed grants are limited to $20,000 direct costs for up to a 2-year funding period.

Funds begin September 1 of the award year, and a faculty member may not receive more than one Dr. JP Bramhall Faculty Research Seed Grant in a two-year fiscal period.

Funding is limited to direct costs associated with conducting research. Costs for producing a research report and/or computer equipment and software are not allowed. Travel requests must be justified and linked directly to data collection. Requests for travel to professional meetings will not be considered.

Applications will be evaluated on scientific merit. The Seed Grant requires a clear description of how seed funding will contribute to developing and submitting extramural research grants.

A report encompassing the research progress is required at the end of the award period. It should include presentations, student involvement, publications, and external grant proposals generated by the seed grant.
